Welcome from the Head

Our aim is to create the conditions for young people to exceed their own expectations – and to become all they can be. Whether in the classroom, on stage, in the lab, or out in the world, our students are encouraged to stretch themselves, to discover their passions, and to build the confidence to pursue them.

We often say that a great education makes you a great travelling companion – and that’s exactly what we hope for every child who joins us. Like Alice stepping through the looking glass, our students are invited into a world full of possibility, where curiosity is rewarded and where a sense of adventure, both academic and personal, is part of daily life.

We are proud to be launching our Sixth Form in 2025 – an exciting new chapter in our school’s story. With a dedicated Sixth Form hub, new study and social spaces, and outstanding teaching at the heart, this next stage of learning will build on the creative and academic foundations of our Senior School, providing real stretch and inspiration for our oldest pupils as they prepare for life beyond Alleyn’s.

Academically, we offer a rigorous and ambitious curriculum, one that gives equal weight to traditional subjects and the creative arts. From early digital skills lessons and a modern languages carousel in Year 7, to our innovative Art History programme in Year 8 and our tailored GCSE pathways in Years 10 and 11, every stage is designed to develop informed thinkers and confident learners.

Creativity runs through the fabric of the school. Students benefit from a vibrant Visual Arts carousel, including Photography and Textiles, and workshops with our artist in residence. Many also pursue LAMDA, instrumental tuition, or even one-to-one lessons in languages such as Mandarin, Russian or Italian.

Beyond the classroom, enrichment is built into the rhythm of the week. Whether it’s debating or chess, philosophy or music appreciation, our programme connects students across year groups and encourages them to find joy, energy and purpose in their interests.

Our size is a key strength; we are large enough to offer a rich variety of trips, events and fixtures, yet small enough for every child to be truly known and supported. The atmosphere here matters – it’s one of warmth, curiosity and high expectations, and it helps students understand themselves as learners and as people.

Fundamental to all of this work is the regular conversation we have with you as parents. We believe that secondary school education is a series of conversations – and that, contrary to the North London myth, information sharing is powerful.

The more informed we are, the more we can support your child. And so we create regular opportunities for you to connect with your child’s teachers through three parents’ evenings a year, parent workshops, and social events.

Ultimately, it is these strong relationships between pupils, parents and staff that underpin our students’ success. Together, we help every child discover who they are and all that they have the potential to become.

We hope you will visit us and see for yourself what Alleyn’s Hampstead Senior School & Sixth Form has to offer. Whether you’re starting or continuing your Alleyn’s journey, we look forward to welcoming you.
