Academic Life

Our Curriculum

Learning and personal development are the natural outcomes of a holistic approach to education, which enables our pupils to enjoy life to the fullest in a unique and progressive community.

At Alleyn’s Hampstead Senior School, our curriculum is rich, ambitious, inspiring, and designed to support pupils in becoming independent, thoughtful, and lifelong learners.

Our aim is to ensure that every student can pursue personal academic interests through a curriculum that is engaging, relevant and appropriately challenging. While academically rigorous, it is equally designed to develop breadth of character and the confidence to contribute meaningfully to the world beyond school.

Alongside traditional core academic subjects, pupils benefit from a wide range of specialist options and a weekly, timetabled Enrichment programme. This approach ensures a balanced and inspiring school experience that prepares pupils not only for higher education, but also for life.

Subjects

Our curriculum in Years 7 to 9 provides a broad and secure foundation across a wide range of disciplines. Pupils are introduced to the core subjects, alongside creative and practical options, and begin developing the habits of independent thought and analytical reasoning that will carry them through to GCSE and beyond.

In Years 10 and 11 (ages 14–16), pupils select three GCSE subjects to study alongside the core curriculum. All students take:

  • English Language and Literature
  • Mathematics
  • Combined Science
  • One Modern Foreign Language

They also continue with Physical Education, PSHE, and the weekly Enrichment programme, which support personal development and wellbeing. Physical Education may also be chosen as one of the three GCSE options for those who wish to pursue it as a formal qualification.

In addition, pupils have access to a range of wider learning experiences, including:

  • The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (optional)
  • Graded music examinations and instrumental tuition (optional)
  • LAMDA speech and drama qualifications (optional)

This balance of academic study and broader development ensures that students leave us with the knowledge, skills and sense of purpose to shape their own future.
